Violin by Jago Peternella, 1920. This violin was purchased by the current owner’s father from Peternella in 1944, receipt states it is a copy of a small Guarnerius, it appears to to modeled after an early type del Gesu. Peternella is another maker whose work varies quite a bit, the later work tending towards a stiffer less refined style that nonetheless can sound well. This early example is similar to, and not inferior in any way to, a Degani, especially looking at the back ( the button and varnish). With a back length of 351 mm, and upper bout width of 166 mm, this is an excellent choice for players with smaller hands.
